Wow, that was nice.
I just finished this game after playing it for the last two days. When watching at the final scene, I just had to post about it, for others to read but mainly for me to remember how I enjoyed playing this masterpiece.
There is probably enough information out there about how stunning and unique the look is, so I’ll skip that.
Some might complain about the short playtime (it took me about three hours) but that worked perfectly for me, so it got on my recommended games list without restrictions.

  • Nice review, though brief. I presume it’s a native GNU/Linux game, where can I find it, is it free software (in any sense)?? etc.

Yes – do did do the research to answer those questions myself, still, would have been nice if your post answered those questions, and the answers were not what I expected.

Great job by the Codeweavers crew to make this binary for Microsoft OS run in WINE. Some debate about whether that’s a totally good thing though.

Thanks for alerting me to it – something for the kids besides Tux Racer, Tux Kart, and the excellent Frozen Bubble.

@Scott: this game is NOT for kids, when playing the game you die a lot and in most cases in a gruesome manner.

You can also tell by the screenshot, that it is not meant to be played by kids ;)
The game is not free (in both senses) and I was also disappointed about the fact, that it was a wine-wrapped non-native linux version.
I also contacted the humble bundle team and remember a discussion (on reddit maybe) that the sound engine did not allow a proper port.

I’m showing my age – anyone who plays games other than the occassional Solitaire game in lush KPatience is a kid in my book. I meant teenagers (and early twenties) who play first person shooter games. No strangers to gore.
Of course I’d prefer a native Linux game – but it’s still less worse to point them at that than to only show them games for younger children.
Personally I think Frozen Bubble is one of the best games for all ages for any platform, and a jewel in the Linux game crown. But while there are plenty of great games for the younger “kids” there’s nothing much for the older kids. Hopefully Steam will change that.
