Hello Planet Debian

Since I am new on the debian planet, let me introduce myself in a quick sentence: I am Eshat Cakar, a yet 25 years old maths student and system administrator from Bielefeld/Germany.
I’ve started maintaining KDE-related packages about a year ago and got pulled inside the Debian Qt/KDE Team shortly after.
I also enjoy working on artwort related things, as you probably saw in my previous posts.

After reading this mail on the debian-kde list, where Michael Haag mentions the lack of press, I’ve decided to blog more recently about KDE related stuff in Debian.
Thanks go to Sune Vuorela for adding my blog to the planet.

I am going to switch to English, since this post might be related to KDE users all over the world.
It’s been a loooong time, since my last blog post, actually over 18 months, sorry for that.
However, I am happy to announce, that a wallpaper proposal I made for the KDE 4.8 plasma default competition has been accepted. So you might see it in the next point release of KDE, or download it here.

Linux auf dem Thinkpad X201

Nach 2 ein halb Jahren mit meinem Samsung Q45 musste ein neues Notebook her.
Nach langem hin und her fiel die Entscheidung auf ein Lenovo Thinkpad X201, da die Linux Kompatibilität ein Traum ist und mir das X60 von Anton so gut gefiel.

Heute war es dann soweit. Mein X201 wurde morgens geliefert und ich hab den halben Tag mit der Installation von Linux, speziell Debian unstable/sid, verbracht…

Frank Schätzing’s Limit

Ich habe am Wochenende dieses dicke Buch von Frank Schätzing geschenkt bekommen.
Da ich von dem Schwarm schon so begeister war, freue ich mich bereits jetzt drauf. Allerdings muss man sagen, dass das Buch nicht gerade sehr handlich ist und sich wahrscheinlich nicht so gut abends im Bett lesen lässt.

Neuer Thriller – neues Glück

Ich habe mir eben ganz spontan auf dem Heimweg diesen Thriller bei Thalia gekauft.
Das Buch heißt “Obsession” und ist von Simon Beckett.
Meine letzte Zufallsauswahl, war eher ein Fehlkauf, das war irgendeine Story eines Microsoft Games.
Ich vermute diesmal werde ich das Buch zu Ende lesen.

Webcam: LifeCam Cinema unter Linux

Premiere: Heute gibt es gleich zwei Blog-Einträge an ein und demselben Tag.

Um viertel vor neun heute morgen kam meine bei Amazon bestelle Microsoft LifeCam Cinema. Da das Gerät über die Feiertage bestellt wurde und aus England versandt wurde, dauerte die Lieferung länger als die bei Amazon üblichen 48 Stunden.
Doch das Warten hat sich gelohnt,…

Der Schwarm – ein toller Thriller

Gib Arch Linux eine Chance

Obwohl ich schon lange überzeugter Debian User bin, habe ich diese Woche Arch Linux ausprobiert.
Ausschlaggebend hierfür waren die Audio- und Videounterstützung von Debian, was da doch sehr streng mit seinen Richtlinien für freie Software ist.
